Mahavir Jayanti, also known as Mahavir Janma Kalyanak, is a significant festival celebrated by Jains around the world to honor the birth of Lord Mahavir, the 24th and last Tirthankara of Jainism. This auspicious occasion falls on the Hindu calendar's 13th day of the Chaitra month, typically in March or April.

Jains commemorate Mahavir Jayanti by visiting Jain temples, participating in prayers and rituals, and engaging in acts of charity and compassion. The teachings of Mahavir, focusing on non-violence (ahimsa), truthfulness (satya), non-attachment (aparigraha), and self-discipline (brahmacharya), are central to Jain philosophy and are revered during this celebration.

One of the most famous Jain temples dedicated to Mahavir is the Palitana Temples in Gujarat, India. Situated atop Shatrunjaya hill, this complex of temples is considered one of the holiest sites in Jainism and attracts thousands of pilgrims annually.

Jains mark Mahavir Jayanti by reciting stotras (hymns of praise) such as the Mahavir Stavan, and visiting sacred sites associated with Lord Mahavir, such as the Girnar Tirth in Gujarat. Devotees also raise the Jain flag, called the Jai Jinendra Dhvaja, as a symbol of their faith and devotion to the teachings of Mahavir.

As the founder of Jainism, Mahavir's teachings inspire millions of followers to lead a life of mindfulness, compassion, and non-violence. By spreading the message of Jainism and upholding the principles laid out by Lord Mahavir, Jains seek to cultivate love and understanding in their communities and promote a culture of peace and harmony.

On this Mahavir Jayanti, let us reflect on the wisdom of Lord Mahavir and strive to embody his teachings of ahimsa and spiritual enlightenment in our daily lives. May his legacy inspire us to be better individuals and contribute to a more compassionate and inclusive world for all beings. Jai Jai Mahavir! Jai Jinendra!
